I was once a beginner in the world of design and at the start of my career I often struggled communicating and presenting my work to others, especially stakeholders. As I gained experience as a UX professional, I got a lot better at it, but I realised that as designers it is an ongoing challenge - we have to constantly seek buy-in of our process and approval for our work. It's part of what we do.
Those same people, whether they are co-workers, stakeholders, executives or clients may present us with challenging questions and opposing rationale. They prompt us to defend our design decisions, and sometimes make us want to argue a point until we are blue in the face. Being an advocate for the user is actually really hard work - often harder than the process of designing itself.
Becoming a true UX leader is really about empathising with your business audience in the same way as you do your users, and then communicating with them in a way they understand.
I hope you like the Sweet Spot UX book. If it helps just one other UX designer in some small way, I'll consider it all worthwhile.
It's important to empathise with your business audience in the same way as you do your users.
